Colds, not flu, are what’s plaguing region most

Orlando SentinelEmployees are calling in sick, children are missing school and health clinics are jampacked across Central Florida. But it’s not the flu that is plaguing the region; it’s the common cold.

An average of 1,000 patients a week have been coming into CentraCare clinics for upper respiratory infections, compared with last fall, when the centers averaged 600 to 700 cases a week, said Dr. Tim Hendrix, medical director for Centra Care, which has 23 clinics across Central Florida.
