Flu cases spike in Central Florida

wesh2Central Florida health clinic workers said they are seeing as many as 10 times the normal number of flu patients this year.

The Orange Coundy Health Department said emergency room visits from people with flu-like symptoms are up 150 percent more than last year at this time.

Doctors at 21 Central Florida Centra Care clinics diagnosed 560 flu cases last week. They said there are some things everyone can do to help keep the spread of the flu bug under control.

“The most likely reason is it was a mild season last year. We’ve forgotten how bad the flu can be, so maybe there’s been some apathy about getting flu shots,” Dr. Timothy Hendrix said. [Read full story]
