Stomach Flu

By now, we’ve made it clear that the flu is going around in Central Florida. But are you ready for a double whammy? Stomach flu is spreading fast, too. The Flu

The flu is tearing through Central Florida in what seems to be an early flu season this year. Last week, Centra Care doctors saw an overall 62% increase in adult cases and a 66% increase in pediatric cases. The locations at Azalea Park and Lee Road saw a 400% jump in confirmed flu tests. Pediatric Pink Eye

Pediatric Pink Eye is as catchy as it sounds.

Pink is the color of the season it seems, especially among the elementary set. Children with Conjunctivitis, a.k.a. Pink Eye, are showing up in big numbers at local Centra Care urgent care locations. The following centers saw the greatest increases in pediatric Pink Eye cases:

  • Oviedo – up 600%
  • Longwood & Orange Lake – up 400%
  • Lee Road – up 300%
  • Lake Buena Vista – up 200%

Fractures

Blame the beautiful weather — who wants to stay inside? Maybe fall sports can take some of the hit, too. Whatever the reason, Centra Care physicians have seen quite a jump in the number of kids with fractures this week, and most of the breaks have been below the belt. Data shows that lower extremity fractures are up 350% from the previous week.

Several weeks ago, Centra Care physicians warned that the influenza virus had hit Central Florida. Week after week the numbers continue to grow, but what is significant this week over others, is the dramatic increase in the number of children that are being diagnosed with the flu.
